Introducing... BANJO DOJO - Free Music Lessons in Group Setting
BANJO DOJO is a space for sharing traditional music and cultural knowledge that removes some of the barriers that come with paid one-on-one lessons.
BANJO DOJO consists of larger blocks of time during which I am available for anyone to drop in and ask questions, share tunes, songs, dance, jam, change strings, listen to recordings, watch videos, or just watch me practice, and it's FREE.
If you're interested please fill out this survey so I can schedule these blocks at times when most people are available.
BANJO DOJO is a more traditional approach to music learning -- Until recently people learned arts and crafts by spending unstructured time with other people who had relevant experience and knowledge, watching, asking questions and trying things out together. Instead of having to schedule a lesson, pay in advance, and then show up and expect to receive The Knowledge as a tidy packet delivered within an hour, you can drop in anytime during the hours posted on my gcal.
BANJO DOJO is not restricted to banjo. I am happy to share from all my knowledge and experience across string instruments (fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin) and styles (e.g., bluegrass, old time, early jazz, blues, country rags, honky tonk, classic banjo, ragtime, and more).
I want to empower people to gain confidence in their abilities for self-expression and creating culture and meaning together. There is no paywall for this. While I do need money to survive, I will not restrict access only to those who can afford to pay.
